Just a short distance from the sea, Montpellier is a land of opportunity, not least for its huge community of medical professionals, architects and scholars. In fact, if you're looking for mental stimulation, there is probably no better place to be, so plentiful are Montpellier's museums and galleries. However, there is lots more just waiting to be discovered - sumptuous food, great theatre and plenty of beautiful parks.

Fan of all things fruity and floral? Tamarillos is your best bet for wonderful fragrant food - rumour has it that a young Gordon Ramsey learnt his pastry skills here. Eat your fill of desserts before embarking on a Montpellier wine tour, taking in the city's most picturesque sights. Four kilometres south of the city centre is Montpellier Parc Zoologique, which boasts some of the rarest species in the world. Entry to the park is free, making it the perfect day trip for a large family.

If you'd prefer to get wild yourself, Montpellier has plenty of bars and clubs towards the coast, thumping out everything from techno and house to jazz. The perfect escape for a young couple or family, you can discover the buzzing metropolis for yourself by booking a trip. Montpellier is only a short flight away.
