Full of culture and history this 2,000 year old city is bursting with spectacular sights including the River Rhine and world class museums displaying famous 20th century art. Cologne’s biggest tourist attraction has to be its magnificent cathedral Kolner Dom. Challenge yourself by climbing the 509 steps up to the Dom’s south tower, to be rewarded with beautiful breathtaking sights of the city.

If you’re a ‘Schokolade’ lover (that’s chocolate to me and you) spare some time in your trip to visit Cologne’s Schokoladenmuseum; a high-tech sanctuary exhibiting the delightful wonders of chocolate-making. With a chocolate foundation ready to be sampled at the end of the tour, it goes without saying that many flock to this family fun attraction.

An essential time to visit Cologne has to be during their Carnival season in February with Women’s Carnival starting the festivities off on 4th February. Fancy dress, uplifting music and fantastic dance performances fill the streets with a party filled atmosphere!

Whilst gallivanting in the streets full of delicious cafes and shops, make the most of your trip by renting a bike to fully appreciate the city’s offerings like a true local. There are three-hour bicycle tours available daily at 1.30pm throughout the summer season.

Christmas in Cologne is definitely worth experiencing as the city is transformed into a magical winter wonderland. From 23rd November onwards Cologne is filled with huge festive markets, packed with festive snacks, aromatic mulled wine and entertaining performances for all. Perfect for a weekend break for couples who love exploring and discovering alternative traditions!
