Building a better airport for you..

Bridgepoint Capital purchased Leeds Bradford International Airport in May 2007 and are now planning to invest £70m over the next five years in upgrading the facilities to make the airport an international gateway that the region can feel proud of.
Proposed Terminal Improvements:
The proposed improvements to the terminal building provide an opportunity to create improved access for passengers alongside offering a striking external design in keeping with a major international airport.
Leeds Bradford are proposing a two storey extension to the landside face of the existing terminal aongside internal modifications to the current building. These improvements will mean that passengers will experience a more comfortable layout of facilities that will make a journey through the terminal building easier. Critically the proposals will deliver new facilities which will integrate with the existing building sympathetically in scale and design.

Ground Floor:
The proposed extension provides for:
Additional terminal space at ground floor level in check-in hall A to improve the layout and circulation space in the concourse and at check-in.
A new expanded passenger securityscreening zone will be centrally located in the new development improving access from both check-in halls.
Self service check-in facilities will be provided, the information desk will be more prominently located and additional space will be provided at the boarding gates.
The domestic baggage reclaim hall will be remodelled and additional toilet facilities will be provided for the landside concourse.
First Floor:
The proposed extension will provide:
A new departure lounge with a central seating area benefitting from natural light created by a glazed roof area.
A selection of retail facilities will surroung this central area providing a relaxed environment for passengers whilst waiting for their flight.
The new airside departure lounge will be linked to the existing first floor catering facilities which are presently under utilised.
A single exit to all departure gates will be located at the eastern end of the new departure lounge.
Plus:
Re-modelling of the airside immigration facility.

Transport Improvements:
Leeds Bradford has already made great strides in undertaking transport improvements at the airport over the last few years and investment has been made this year to re-develop the airport forecourt to assist in enhancing access to and from the airport.
Key point include:
37% of passengers at LBIA utilise public transport. Over the last three years this percentage has grown by 8%.
LBIA financially supports the present regular bus services operating from the airport to Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate.
The remodelled airport forecourt now provides for rapid access to public transport including a dedicated bus lane and realtime information displays are planned.
A £450k programme of local highway improvements is being funded by LBIA and implemented by the council.

Sustainable Development:
The terminal proposals will provide an opportunity to incorporate renewable technologies. Options that will be considered for incorporation into the design include water conservation, solar water heating and rainwater recovery. Improving terminal facilities at the airport will also improve the passenger experience and the attractiveness of Leeds Bradford in discouraging car based journeys to other regional airports, especially Manchester.
The continued success of Leeds Bradford will benefit the economy of the region.
