As of 01 July 2007 all enclosed public places and workplaces in England are now smokefree. A smokefree England will ensure a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from secondhand smoke.
In line with this new legislation Leeds Bradford Airport is now smokefree. There is a designated smoking area outside the main terminal entrance. Passengers are not allowed to smoke in restaurants, bars or departure lounges. For safety and practical reasons there is not an outside smoking area airside. Arriving passengers are able to smoke once they have reclaimed their luggage and exited the terminal building.
If you don't comply with the new smokefree law, you will be committing a criminal offence. The fixed penalty notices and maximum fine for smoking in smokefree premises are: A fixed penalty notice of £50 (reduced to £30 if paid in 15 days). Or a maximum fine of £200 if prosecuted and convicted by a court.
