Discover Amsterdam

There are few cities as pretty as Amsterdam. Every turn leads you to another perfectly photogenic spot, and that's in no small part thanks to the plethora of canals and row after row of colourful, traditionally Dutch houses.

As well as being picture-perfect, Amsterdam is also a city full to the brim with art and history. You'll find the Van Gogh Museum here, as well as many galleries featuring work from current artists living in the city. In fact, this bohemian vibe flows through into the many brilliant independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants that occupy the city centre, along the Damrak, Warmoesstraat and beyond.

Be present in Amsterdam’s curious past

Home to the renowned Anne Frank House, there is plenty of war history to be found in the city. And history can be experienced in the art of the Old Masters in Rijksmuseum or the 17th century mansion that is Museum Van Loon.

Alongside this, you'll be able to discover the lighter side to the country's past, exploring the Netherlands' deep roots in beer production. For this, be sure to visit the Heineken Experience, and the Brouwerij t' IJ. The latter is a microbrewery at the foot of a windmill - few things are more typically Dutch. To sample the cuisine be sure to pick up a stroopwafel, a cone of frites and of course Edam cheese.

Take a trip on Amsterdam’s wilder side

There is more than a little eccentricity to be enjoyed on the quirky, bicycle-filled streets of Amsterdam. You could see a classical composition performed by a player-less piano in the Pianola Museum (there’s always the Royal Concertgebouw if you prefer a more personable performance), hop on a bike (or tandem) for a ride out to the green spaces of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel or gondola along the city’s famous canals.

Wilder yet, the city can host a 24 hour party thanks to clubs with 24 hour licences and even the museums (check out Museum N8) host cocktail parties. Finally, we’ll simply mention the Red and Green Light Districts by name for any tourists not yet aware of their notoriety.
