Chief Executive's Summer Review

Airport News

Summer’s always a busy time for us and this year has been no different as we were delighted to achieve record passenger numbers. Between April and October our passenger numbers set a new record with 13.5% growth and totalled 3.04m.

Thank you to everyone who flew from LBA and helped us achieve this record.

May saw my arrival as CEO at this airport, I have been very busy getting out and about to meet people around the region, thereby raising the airport’s profile. I have also been reviewing and developing plans to take this airport forward. I and my team know there is still significant room for improvement in our performance, and that of our partners at this airport, and while we hope you are starting to notice some improvements, there is still a lot more to do. However, we will be very surprised if you don’t notice a significant improvement when you come through the airport next year.

August saw a record number of weekly passengers come through our doors – over 120,000 in a week – it is always nice to see a busy airport and we’ve certainly been that this summer!

So now, after a busy summer we are taking stock of what went well and what did not. We have already decided to take control of PRM (Passengers with Reduced Mobility) service in-house from the current provider. We are also taking over responsibility for bussing you to and from the aircraft. By taking responsibility for these activities ourselves, we want to provide a better service for you.

We also have some exciting new terminal developments planned for early next year and there will be larger relocated passenger lounges for those of you looking for a special pre-flight experience. A dedicated coffee shop after security, additional retail outlets will provide an enhanced experience within the terminal. We are also expanding the security area to improve this experience for you, and reduce waiting times. More general seating in the departure lounge area has been installed in response to your feedback.

Finally, thank you to all those who have flown from LBA whilst we look forward to seeing you again, very soon!
