Discover Copenhagen

Sitting pretty on the tip of Denmark's easternmost island, Copenhagen is a city that's filled to the brim with creativity, culture and bicycles. The Danish capital might not be the largest city in Scandinavia, but what it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for in aesthetics. The city is beautifully scenic, exceptionally non-judgemental and has a well-established reputation for offering residents a brilliant standard of living.

Finding your way around

The city is built around the water, with some of the most stunning examples of historic Danish architecture sitting alongside Havnebussen. Follow the water and you'll find Nyhavn - or New Harbour - which, aside from the Little Mermaid, is one of the most iconic Copenhagen scenes. Here, you'll find a plethora of cafés, bars, and two rows of brightly-painted buildings - including the house where famed author Hans Christian Anderson used to live.

Head more into the urban centre and you'll undoubtedly arrive at one of the longest stretches of pedestrianised shopping streets in Europe, the Strøget. Here, you'll find famous brands such as Georg Jenson, Royal Copenhagen and HAY – the perfect place to get your shopping fix.

Copenhagen is as good for museums and galleries as it is shopping. The National Museum offers local insight into the nation's Viking past, and the ARKEN Museum of Modern Art is a must for anyone interested in iconic Danish design. The city is a mecca for Scandinavian creative types, and the district of Vesterbo is one to visit if you're keen to discover emerging new design talent.
