Overview

View Corfu Gallery

Like many Greek islands, Corfu is a heady mix of the vibrant, action-packed resorts to sleepy fishing villages.

For sun-seekers, you can choose from the island's party central Kavos, or Gouvia, a similarly action-packed resort that's also a big draw for young people with its open-air beach clubs and lively bars. Over on the west coast of the island, the likes of Agios Georgios Pagon offer more tranquil, relaxed beach atmospheres, where you can enjoy a wide range of water sports. What's more, hopping from one part of the island to another is easy thanks to Corfu's regular bus services.

Dotted across the island you'll find sites of historic interest, with remnants of the many peoples who have lived on Corfu throughout history. But not all the history is in ruins; sightseers must check out the Achilleion - a grand palace filled with artwork, built by the Austrian Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria to celebrate the Greek hero Achilles.

In Corfu Town you can explore the Old Fortress that defended the island, with view over the Venetian architecture of the town and out over the blue waters of the Ionian Sea. There's plenty of opportunity to enjoy Corfu's natural beauty as well in the many traditional fishing villages and areas of untouched coastline.
